Examine the ID:

Determine what you should look for: Identifications vary depending on the country or city where they are issued. Therefore, you need to know the security features of those issued in your city and surrounding regions. Luckily, there is a lot of information available:

For example, some jurisdictions have a guide available to the public where you can check the updated information concerning identity documents.

Keep in mind that there are also applications for smartphones that can help you recognize identifications.

Compare the identification with a valid one: If you do not have a guide to verify identification, you can compare it with one that you know is valid (for example, with yours). Check the similarities they have. Compare mainly the thickness, size, colors, letters, and corners. A fake id can be thinner than a genuine one. Counterfeiters use a paper or laminate other than those of authentic identifications.

Use a magnifying glass to examine the microprint: Almost all jurisdictions use microprinting as a security record. This resembles a straight line, but when enlarged 10 times, you can see the words. Use a 10x magnifying glass to see if the identification carries a micro print. This microprinting is located in different places depending on the jurisdiction where it is issued.

Hold the identification against ultraviolet light: Depending on the jurisdiction where they are issued, you will see some security features if you place them against ultraviolet light. For example, some identifications have a second dimmer image of the headline that can only be seen through ultraviolet light.

Scan the barcode: The barcode contains information that must match the one found on the front of the document. Most counterfeiters encode the information because it is very expensive. Therefore, it scans the barcode and determines if the information has been encoded and if it matches the one indicated on the front.

Look for spelling mistakes in the identification: If an identification includes a misspelling (an incorrect abbreviation of the city), you can detect the custom scannable fake id. Remember that identification with misspellings is not authentic.
